France's "War" On
Communism
Paris, Feb. 14.
A highly placed informant tonight pletured the French government's efforts to roll `back prices as its second battle against Inter- national Communisin. "We are at war with international Communism," the informant, in a private conversation, said. "We won the first battle last November and December when the Communists unsuccess- Jully tried to provoke a general-strike. Now. the government is trying to halt the rise in prices, and, if possible, force them down. This is the second battle with the Communists and the government is doomed if it is lost.' The informant would not per |inli μse of Els name. These váry. ing estimates of price increases her December 1 fa ve been given:-
The Communist Jed General Confederation of Labour (C.G.T.) 214 per cent.
The non-Communist branch of
CG.T. which broke away in December. 15 per cent.
The Government, 10 per ceni. The Communists are reported the preparing a demand for a 20 per cent. wage increase insed
for the nerd of meeting higher prices. After the December test
