REPARATIONS FROM JAPAN China And U.S. To Get Lion's Share Minor Scraps For Commonwealth

Brisbane, Dec. 29.

China and the United States' will divide the lion's share of Japanese war réparations, leaving the British Commonwealth "minor scraps." This, it is understood, in Canberra today, is the substance of the American Government's -latest proposals which have been accepted by: Australia in the hope of achieving an early settlement in the Pacific areas.

"VIRUS X" MYSTERY

The British Government, it ir į 190009 understood, disagrees with the American propraals, but har not yet advanced alternatives. The American note. suggests the following division of re- parations: China, 30 per cent; America, 28 per cent; Australia 8 per cent; Russin

four per cent.

The United States has in- diented that it will return 18 per cent to the reparations fund. Russia is requesting 15 per cent of the reparutions total, it is understood, and a declining to count her plunder of Manchuria and Korea as part thereof, ex- plaining that this is "legitimat war booty."
