NEW PENSIONS RULE FOR
POLICE OFFICERS
An Ordinance to provide for pensions or gratuities to. Police Officers, who have elected to retire in clrcumstances which would not otherwise entitle them to pension or gratulty, is to have Its first reading in Legislative Council to-
morrow.

The normal method of dealing with persons displaced by a re- duction of establishment would be by compulsory retirement on abolition of offer, but the offices in many CASCI are not being abolished and in such cases there la no power to award a pension er gratuity.
In view of the circumstances of the Internment of most of the officers concerned and the fact that they could reasonably expect to re- sume their employment compuls; sory retirement without a pen. sloh or gratuity would be ineqult- able.
The Terms
