GENERALISSIMO INTERVENES Orders Ruthless Steps In Crisis

Nanking, Dec. 4. Chiang Kai-shek, assuming personal command in the battle against China's runaway Inflation, ordered the adoption of "the most ruthless suppression of all business activities that are apt to cause undue price fluctuations." This order, an informed semi-official source said, was given to Minister of Finance O. K. Yui, who called on the Generalissimo late last night to obtain his personal instructions on ways and means of curbing the nation's ever- shortening cycles of price increases.

Chiang was said to have ask- ed two Ministers to seize the "present psychological mo- ment," when prices indicated a downward trend, to vigorously suppress

The Generalissimo gave them explicitly to understand that the Government's war against inflation was second in import ance only to the military cam- paign against the Chinese Reds, and that the Government must coordinate its economic and military measures if it hopes to succeed.
