COLONY OBSERVANCE OF REMEMBRANCE DAY
Ceremony At The Cenotaph
Hong Kong yesterday remembered those who gave their lives in the World Wars of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945 with an impressive'ceremony at the Cenotaph and at the Chinese War Mem- orial in the Botanical Gardens, as well as with a Remembrance Service at St. John's Cathe- dral and private ceremonies at Clubs and In- stitutions.
TOUCHING SCENE
A touching scone was witnessed at the. Cenotaph yes- terday during the Remembrance Day_Service;
Standing alone, at the base of the Cenotaph on that portion of the lawn reserved for "the Press, wosia well- dressed, middle-aged Chinese woman, holding a humble wreath of flowers in her hands and with deep grief writ- ten plainly all over her face,
She remained in her position, with head bowed, until after His Excellency the Governor and Heads of the Ser- vices had laid down their wreaths.
She then proceeded up the steps to the Supreme Court side of the Cenotaph and tenderly placed her own simple wreath by the side of the others. Stepping back, she stood for a minute, with head bowed and then saluted, Returning to her original position on the lawn, she knelt down and remained thus until the ceremony con- cluded.
