A CRISIS IN THE CHURCH "BE OF GOOD CHEER,"

London Newspaper Asks Readers For Views On Dr. Barnes' "Heresy"

Book Seen As Climax

To A Revolt

London, Oct. 19.

The Sunday Pictorial today asked its four million readers to send in their views on the contro- versy which has arisen over the Bishop of Birmingham's book, "The Rise of Christian- ity," condemned as heretical by the Arch- bishops of Canterbury and York recently. Terming the controversy of "far-reaching impor- tance," the Sunday Pictorial described the issue as "one in which public opinion will eventually affect the future of the established Church-its attitude to the Scriptures and its influence in modern times-and the position occupied by at least one of its leading digni- taries."
