CHINA'S PROPOSAL ON EGYPT DEFEATED AT UNO

Lake Success, Sept. 10. A resolution proposed by China, aimed at bring

ing about a solution of the Anglo-Egyptian treaty dispute when the Security Council re- sumed Its discussion of the Egyptian complaint against Britain today, was defeated. The resolution said that the Security Council, hav- ing confidence that the re-establishment of direct contact would result in an early evacua-l tion of the remaining British armed forces, should recommend that Britain and Egypt (1)] resume negotiations, and (2) keep the Secur- ity Council informed of their progress, and re- port not later than Jan. 1.
