The maximum penalty on each and every one of the charges against three defendants, convict- ed of selling contaminated food, was asked for by Senior Health Inspector G. H, Sherrlif on the grounds that the offence was a very serious one and might have resulted in the death of a large number of people.

Declaring that he took a most serious view of the case, Mr. W. A. Blair-Kerr sentenced Chan Yat (alías Cho Yat) and Lee Chor (alias Tsang Kui) to six months' hard labour on each of four counts and a fine of $500 (or another six months) in respect of the fifth charge. Lam Pui was sent to prison | for a total term of 12 months on two charges and fined $600 for alx months) on the third.
