London, July 10. Rumours from places as far apart as Hong Kong and the London Stock Exchange of the imminent devaluation of Sterling and a cor- responding rise of gold today drew remark- ably prompt and categorical official denials from the Treasury and the Bank of England. In Hong Kong, the price of gold. jumped in the late afternoon on rumours of possible devalu- ation of Sterling after July 15-when all cur- rent Sterling is to become convertible into Dol- lars, or other currency, under the Anglo-Am- erican Loan Agreement-and the unofficial selling rate of Sterling notes there fell to the equivalent of less than 16/-.
