Turning Point In British YOUR ATOM BOMB FEARS
Imperial Defence Policy
Work of Monty's
New Talks
Camberley, Apr. 10. Some military observers believe that the turning point.in Britain's overall defence policy and Integration of Imperial defence will be achiev ed, at the conference of senior commanders of, the three fighting Services which will be held at the Imperial Staff College here next month, under the chairmanship of Field Marshal Vis- count Montgomery, Chief of the Imperial Gen- eral Staff.
High ranking officers who will attend the confer- ence are expected to work out a theory of fu- ture defence of the Empire in relation to the transfer of power in India from British to In- dian hands by June next year.

London, Apr. 10. Elforts by the Eire Government to get a Jorger allocation of coal from Britain have now been abandoned, it was learned here today.
The fact that one of the parti- elpanis at these talks will be the Commander-in-Chief,

pecially significant.

While neither the War nor the India Office will make any comment on the Implications of the Combined Staff talks, mil tary observers say that Flei Marshal Auchinleck will play mu important role.

New York, Apr. 11. The talk about atomic bombs thousands of times more powerful than those hitherto used is dis- counted by most specialists, says Dr. Philip Morrison, one of America's foremost atomic scientists, in the "New Republic Magazine.” "That the possibility. exists," he says, "is certainly. true; that any realization of it is at hand Eeems most unlikely."

Somebody Talked Too Soon
Berlin, Apr. 10.
News of the Big Four powers' clean-up in Berlin should have been kept secret until it was over to prevent someone "really important" slip- ping through the net, British Military Govern- ment officials stated here tonight when com- menting on the all-city drive against war cri- ninals, black marketeers, deserters and other persons on the "wanted” list.
Inquiries, they said, were being made into what officials described as premature release of de- tails of operations. The United States Deputy Military Governor, Major-General Frank
Keating, disclosed details-soon-after the raid-
began last night.
Up to midday today, 300 suspects had been detained in the British sector and about 80 in the American sector in the
joint swoop.
The grim prospect of an in- definite period-undoubtedly for Home years-of acute fuel short- nge thus faces southern Ireland. This development is the most striking evidence yet given of

The frish High Commissioner's of fice here has presented à reporti showing that the quality has gone down one-fifth from pre- W times, Thus, effectively Eire is getting less than a fifth of coal from Britain than she
