Workers Collapse From
Lack Of
Food
Herford, Feb. 15.
A deputation of railway workers from the Ruhr industrial district told British Military Gov- ernment officers at a special conference at Dusseldorf today that unless "really ener- getic steps" were taken at once, the terrible conditions under which they were living would induce them to "take action which none would be able to prevent." They claimed that railwayhem. had been receiving just over wit their normal daily ration of 1,550 calories
The deputation demanded gen- eral increases of railway workers rations to 2,000 calories a day, calling for the establishment of railway kitchens where extra. food could be obtained.
All our warnings have been ignored, опе of the workers spokesmen said.
"On several days, cur people have set out for work without a bite to eat. Now they are collaps ing through lack of food."
A spokesman added that the railwaymen's desperate food sliua tion was one cause of the large number of accidents.
Briush officer The presiding promised to pass on the workers requests to Mr.
Mr. W. Asbury, Re- gional Commissioner for the Pro vince of North Rhine-Westphalia, who would make them known to Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Sir Sholle Douglas, British Con- mander-in-Chief In Germany Reuter.
