"A plan is on foot for building large cargo and passenger liners by In- dian firms in Indian shipyards, with well- known British shipbuild ers acting in a consulta tive capacity.
Negotiations to this and are, it is understood from well-informed
sources, taking place on 'a "very friendly hisis" with Messrs. Jolin 3rewn & Company, of Clydebank, who built the world's largest liners, the "Queen Elizabeth" and
e "Queen Mary." The vessels will be of tonnages up to 20,000 tons and when con-' structed will provide India with 7 brand-new passenger and mer- chant fleet, operating between the principal parts of the world.
It is understood that one of the principal results of the talks will involve the transfer of key work- ers from Clydebank to Indian shipyards.-Realer.
