Places in Britain

The difficulties of securing places in United King-

dom Universities for students from the Colon

ies and other overseas territories have been the subject of a communication recently re- ceived from the Secretary of State for the Col- onies. Universities and Colleges in the United ‘- Kingdom are being overwhelmed with appli- cations for entry from students in 'the United Kingdom as well as from overseas.

For the current year, 90% of available places in set all Universities and Colleges have been aside for ex-service candidates, and while every consideration has been given to the claims of overseas students, priority has been given among them also to those who have been released from the services. There is a particularly for the 1047-48 academic year, acute lack of space in and therefore, only those with the strongest recommendations and medical and engineering qualification are likely to be suc schools which crowded to capacity.
