UNITED NATIONS BROADENED Sweden, Iceland And Afghanistan Admitted
Security Council Elections

In a friendly and informal ceremony three new countries- Sweden, Iceland and Afghanistan
Joined the United Nations today. The Pre- sident, M. Paul Herni Spaak, with the Secre tary-General, Dr. Trygve Lie on his right and the remainder of the United Nations assistant- secretaries, sat at a semi-circular table under the glare of floodlights and flanked by dozens of photographers. The three heads of the new delegations sat together opposite M. Spaak, about ten feet away.
The President called each delegate in turn to come to the table and sign the document of adherence to the United Nations. The first to come forward was A. Hosazn Aziz, head of the Afghanistan delegation, followed by Gesten Unden, Swedish Foreign Minister and then M.
