Kowloon Wharf War Loss Of Six Millions

Off the eve of the Company's diamond jubilee, shareholders of the Hong Kong & Kowloon Wharf & Godown Co., Ltd., held their first post-war general meeting yesterday in the offices of Messrs. Jardine Matheson & Co., Ltd. Mr. F. A. Pollock, Chairman, gave a review of the Company's war losses, amounting to nearly six million dollars, as well as an outline of its rehabilitation programme. He said that as the most important unit in the facilities of this port it was incumbent on the Company to bring its services back to the prewar standard as speedily as possible.

quisitioned by the Government at the outbreak of hostilities, and on

Progress Report

The manner in which welfare and relief activities were organised after the liberation of Hong Kong and later co-ordinated, and the scope of such activities at the present time are sum- med up in a progress report issued by the Hong Kong Social Welfare Council. During the immediate post-liberation period, re- lief work was undertaken by a number of in- dependent agencies, among which were the Relief Section of the Civil Affairs Administra- tion, the British Red Cross, Australian Red Cross, Salvation Army and the Boy Scouts' International.
