The conflict in the Cabinet over the abolition of capital punishment may hold up the Labour Government's plans to introduce a legislation for wide reforms of British criminal justice procedure.

While the Home Secretary, Mr. John Chuter Ede (holding strongly humanitarian views) wants to abolish the death penalty for at least an ex- perimental period of five years and in this he has the backing of the majority of the Labour members in the present Parliament, the rest of the Cabinet is still trying to make up its mind on the issue regarding the death penalty, according to reliable sources here.
