The vell was lifted today on the mystery sur- rounding the departure of the Mufti of Jeru- salem from France when a Foreign Office of- ficial announced tonight that police inquiry had revealed the Mufti actually left France nearly a fortnight ago in an American plane which took off from the Orly airfield, near Paris, and landed in Cairo.

The Mufti used a Syrian passport, No. 90, issued to him under a false name on Nov. 28, 1945. Un- der this assumed identity, the Mufti boarded American Douglas DC4 plane belonging to the Trans-Continental and Western Airline at the
