AFFIDAVITS RELATING TO HAPPENINGS IN SHAMSHUI- PO PRISONER-OF-WAR CAMP ON DECEMBER. 21, 1942, DURING WHICH INOUYE, A CANADIAN- BORN JAPANESE, THEN AN INTERPRETER AT THE CAMP, IS ALLEGED TO HAVE ASSAULTED CAPTAIN J. A. NORRIS OF THE WINNIPEG GRENADIERS AND MAJOR F. T. ATKINSON OF THE ROYAL RIFLES OF CANADA, WERE READ AT THE WAR CRIMES COURT YESTERDAY IN THE CASE IN WHICH INOUYE KANAO IS CHARGED WITH COMMITTING WAR CRIMES.
IN HIS AFFIDAVIT, LIEUT.-COL. JOHN `N, B. CRAWFORD, R.C.A.M.C., ATTACHED TO THE WINNIPEG GRENA- DIERS, STATED THAT, BECAUSE OF SOME MEN BEING LATE FOR A PARADE, CAPT. NORRIS WAS BEATEN BY INOUYE. INOUYE IS SAID TO HAVE STRUCK NORRIS A NUMBER OF BLOWS ON THE FACE AND KICKED HIM WHILE ON THE GROUND CAUSING INJURIES TO HIS EYE AND VARIOUS CUTS. ABOUT THE FACE AND JAW.
