UNDER-CURRENTS OF POLITICS IN SHANGHAI

WHILE SUPERFICIALLY the life of the local Russian community has been pursuing its former placid course, police and other enquiries have brought to light internal political rifts and a recent intensification in Shanghai of the activities of a political body with headquarters in North China.

Meanwhile reports have been rife that efforts have been made to mobilise young "White Russians" in Shanghai in an anti-communist campaign and several cases have been reported of Russians who have escaped from Tsingtao to avoid mobilisation.
