America's Lease And Lend Aid

PRESIDENT Roosevelt's reports to Con- gress regarding the operations under the Lease and Lend Act show that while the bulk of assistance has gone to Britain, about 12 nations have`received help.

The list includes China, Poland, Greece, Yugoslavia, Norway, Belgium and the Neth- erlands, including the Netherlands East In- dies, Brazil, and the Dominican Republic.

Declaring this aid was not a mat- ter of charity or sympathy, Pre- sident Roosevelt said, "We offer it because we know that piecemeal resistance to aggression is doom- ed to failure, because the ruthless war machine that now bestrides he the continent of Europe can combatted only by the combined efforts of all free peoples and at all strategic points where the ag- gressor may strike."

President Roosevelt said America must offer "not only the Shield but also the sword," tools for the final total victory to "those people who are gallantly shedding their blood in the front lines of this struggle.“
