HOME MUDDLERS GET GETTING

BETTER

BLAME FOR CRETE OF VICHY

THE RETREAT from Crete, something more than a military mistake, had some of its roots in the mismanagement of the home industrial front.

Mr. Jack Tanner, president of the Amalgamated Engineering Union, said that at the union's annual conference at Llandudno.

"As members of the working ing in terms of pre-war days by eluss, he declared, we have a allowing a few to hold the many night to be guaranteed that if we to ransom. make our utmost efforts to pro- duce munitions those efforts shall not be furned to naught by a group of incompetents.

* The Government sends out men to fight on the sea, on the land and in the air, but they are not adequately supported, because it allows the reckless squandering

of the nation's resources and ener gies.

"We repudiate any respon. Elbility for delays and checks in production.

"The fault lies with the Gov- ernment and the employers. The latter still retain their time control and enjoy time profi n.

It was disclosed on Saturday that the crews of ships recently sent from Marseilles 10 repa'rlate Vichy troops included, for exam- ple, a large proportion of young Dich who had taken employment of various kinds in order to reach Syrian territory and rally to the Free French.

In spite of heroic efforts many | of those who arrived at the port did not succeed in embarking, for authorities had bern the Vichy warned and guards were pluc d

THE HEAD OFFICE OF THE TEXAS OIL COMPANY IS BE- ING REMOVED FROM SHANG- HAI TO SINGAPORE EARLY NEXT MONTH, ACCORDING TO THE "SHANGHAI EVENING POST."

The paper, quoting the General Manager, Mr. P. F. Lefevre, says it would only entail the transfer of the head office and part of the staff since the local office in Shang- hai will be maintained and sales of gas and oil continued as before. -Reuter.
