Mackenzie King Opposes Imperial War Cabinet Idea
MR. MACKENZIE KING, Prime Minister of Canada, saw Lord Cranborne, Secretary of State for the Dominions, at the Dominions Office yesterday. He also called on Mr. Angus Macdonald, Canadian Minister of Defence, at his hotel.
A large gathering of journalists, presided over by Mr. Brendan Bracken, Minister of Information, met Mr. Mackenzie King at the Ministry of Information when he was ques- tioned on his views about an Imperial War Cabinet.
In reply the Canadian Pre-, civil authorities, or between the mer said he thought they had al Governments themselves. most perteet and continuous cons The reason was that before any perence of Calunyts that any group | important step had been taken. nations could possibly have the Dominions had been consulled was essential to have effective means of communication between
ifferent parts.

I have been in office for many years, said Mr. Mackenzie King, I "and I say without hesitation that ! I cannot conceive a more effec- tive means of communication than that which now exists."

At all mes, but particularly in tines of great emergency, im- portant decisions should be made hot by one man, but by the Got ernment as a whole. "It might seem," went on Mr. Mackenzie King, "that some Im- perial Cabinet sitting in London would be more effective in mak- ing decisions. But what is ex- pressed to-day through Cabinets of the Dominions infinitely more effective in reach- ing quick and true decisions than

POSITION NOT SATISFACTORY
The written reply
of the Iranian Gov- ernment to the repre- sentations made by the British and Soviet Governments in re- gard to the presence in Iran of the exces- sive number of Ger-. man nationals has not so far been received in London although it is expected very short- İy.
Preliminary indica- tions of its nature, derived from oral communications from the Iranian authori- ties concerned, have, however, noi given a favourable impression of the Iranian Govern- ment's attitude.--Bri- tish Wireless. 1000000000

"I was present at the meeting of the War Committee of the British Cabinet to-day. I would not be in a position, on my own Initiative, to say without con- oultation with my colleagues in Ottawa, and through them with their Service colleagues, just what was the opinion which could be given to the Govern ment.
"That would mean cabling to the other side and getting word back before I 'could communicate. It is very much easier to give the Cabinet opinion by being able to discuss it with my colleagues In all the phases and thus represent 'it to the Government here as the
collective opinion.”
Mr. Mackenzie King said that there had never been a time whên relations had been closer than they were to-day nor when they. had less in the way of differences between them.
No Differences
There had never been a single point of difference, on any essen- tial matter since the beginning of the war, between the Canadian and United Kingdom Govern ments. In the last war differences urose continuously between the Governments and between, mili- tary and civil authorities. In this war there lind not been any difference between military and
