ABOUT THIRTY Japanese, residents some with tears streaming down their cheeks and others covering their feelings behind- smiles and laughter – boarded the Japanese vessel, "Shiragane Maru” which sailed for ́Canton at 8 a.m. to-day.
The majority comprised the entire staff of the geisha girls of the Chitose Hotel, Ken- nedy Road, some 15 in number -- who have been evacuated to the Canton branch of the Hotel.
In
their traditional national Costumes, the geishas presented a colourful scene on the poop deck of the ship, where they remained waving silk handkerchiefs to friends and former patrons on the whart until the ship was out of sight.
