Quoting statement received from

an official

source, the Batavia radio denies the Domei state- ment that new trade talks. between Japan and the Netherlands East Indies have been opened and that resumption or nor- mal trade relations was expected within a week.

The announcer said that Japan was continually endeavouring to dispel the impression created by the democracies' action in freez- ing Japanese assets when Japan occupied Indo-China.

The Netherlands East Indies, according to an official source, considered the occupation of Indo- China by Japan as a direct threat to them, and it goes without say- ing that all exports which would' constitute aid to Japan's war economy would not be in the in- terests of the Netherlands East Indies and wi 1, therefore, not take place, Reuter.
