Anglo-Soviet Joint To Turkey
Guarantee
A JOINT ANGLO-SOVIET DEMARCHE TO TURKEY HASBEEN OFFICIALLY MADE, IT WAS REVEALED IN LONDON YESTERDAY.
The British and Soviet Ambassadors in Ankara called on the Turkish Foreign Office on August 10 and declared their countries had no aggressive intentions or claims: to- wards the Straits and confirmed fidelity to the Montreux Convention.
The two Governments, they stated, were prepared scrupulously to observe Turkish territorial integrity. Both will be prepared to assist Turkey if attacked by a European power.
The British and Soviet declara- tions were in identical terms.
The text of the British declara tion is "His Majesty's Govern- ment in the United Kingdom con- firms their fidelity to the Mon- treux Convention and assure the Turkish Government they have no aggressive intentions or claims whatever regarding the Straits,
