The Czech crew of a Wellington bomber, by "commendable copiness, and fine airmanship," re- cently brought home their aircraft safely under great difficulties.
The bomber was returning from an attack when just over the Dutch coast it was fred upon by a German` night fighter.
The rear gunner returned the fre but cannon shells burst in sel the bomb compartment and the aircraft on fire and the astro- drome was also hit.
The captain turned the aircraft back over Holland to enable the crew to bule out if the fire could not be extinguished. Determined efforts were made to do this and after fifteen minutes the fire was out.
It had burnt much of the fabric not only off the top and bottom of one wing but also along the side of the fuselage. Inside the aircraft it had de stroyed the chart board, various pleces of equipment and still more fabric.
