THERE IS LITTLE REASON TO DOUBT THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE NEWS THAT JAPAN HAS GIVEN VICHY AN ULTIMATUM ABOUT INDO-CHINA ALTHOUGH NO OFFI- CIAL CONFIRMATION HAS BEEN RECEIVED IN LONDON.
Seeing that the Japanese are already in- stalled in northern Indo-China, it will not be easy to prevent from spreading to the south- ern half.
It is probable, however, that the occupa tion of Indo-China is not an end in itself for the Japanese Government.
Rather is it likely that they! will use it as it jumping-off ground for their vaster plans of imperialist expansion.
Whether they will travel south- East wards against the Dutch. Indies or westwards
against Thailand, in the hope of ultim- ately severing the Buma road;
