SOUTH CHINA FOOTBALL TEAM RETURNED TO THE COLONY YESTERDAY AFTER A VERY SUCCESSFUL TOUR OF MALAYA, WHERE THEY NOT ONLY WON THE MAJORITY OF THEIR GAMES AND ENHANCED THEIR OWN POPULARITY, BUT WERE INSTRU- MENTAL IN RAISING LARGE SUMS FOR BRITISH AND CHINESE WAR CHARITIES. OF THE 17 GAMES PLAYED THEY WON 12, LOST 2 AND DREW 3, INCLUDING THE ABANDONED GAME AT KUALA

Although some of the grounds are still too wet to permit teams, indications are that, providing the weather holds out, some, if not

all, of the League matches (Third

South China were given a great reception wherever they went and their matches were at- tended by larger crowds than in previous tours. The reason was, principally, that the public wanted to see the South China team which had brought off the Hong Kong “Double”—-winiting First Division of the League and the Senior Shield without the services of a number of their former star players.

In Singapore the crowd was so large that in the Connie first game, against Combined Singapore, the play- ers were not able to get to the ground and the officials in charge were afraid of opening the gates for fear of a rush. It was only with the assistance of the police, who had to use force at times, that the players were able to get in. In the game against Combined Services the players had to be ground two hours before the kick-off, and all tickets to the ground were sold out an hour before the
