RECORDS GONE WITH CANALS TO

THE WIND

"Gone With The Wind" has made screen history. With a recent perform- ance at the Ritz, London, it became the first film to run for a year at a West End cinema. The previous

record was held by "Ben Hur," which ran for

Mr. George Gibson, Chairman of the T.U.C. General Council, criticised Mr. Bennett, a Metro- politan magistrate, and "aristocra- tic people in London" who had commented about the wages of war workers.

He told the annual conference of trade union women in Leeds that Mr. Bennett seemed to have the idea that income tax had gone up to 10s. in the £ because war workers were earning £5 a week or more. "It is easy to talk non- sense with an Oxford accent," he declared,
