DOUBLE SEVENTH APPEAL

The China Campaign Committee in London yes- terday made the follow- ing appeal in connection with a "Double Seventh" campaign throughout the country.

the

world

"On July 7, China enters 5th year of her struggle for ex- istence as a free nation. Japan- ese armies have fought with cruelty outstanding In a sick with horrors. Yet the massacres of civilians which have shocked humanity account for fraction of the only a small deaths and sufferings caused by this utterly unprovoked war.

our

"We are trying to raise A special fund to send out to China on July 7 but we must also pro vide for the continuity of work for China in Britain. De- mocracy's worst disease is ignor- ance. Japan's altack found China ill-prepared materially. It found the peoples of the West equally ill-equipped mentally for understanding the significance of the Eastern events and their Government reactions to them.

"To dispel this ignorance and to foster a policy of real support and friendship for Cina is the second duty which the China Campaign Committee has under- taken. In the past year despite and the bombing of our office

we the dwindling of our funds. continued our unspectacular but essential work of collection and distribution of information.

"Even at such time as this we dare not

our activities which we believe prepare the way for new friendship between our two peoples in generations to come. Will you still support us in our double task?"

Cease

On behalf of the China Cam. paign Committee, the appeal was signed by Lord Listowel, Presi- dent, Mr. Victor Collancz, Chair- Vice- man, Miss Margery Fry, Chairman and Miss Dorothy Woodman, Hun Secretary. → Central News.
