GIRL STAYED FOR WOUNDED

A CANTEEN GIRL, found beside three dead men after a bomb had hit a building, refused to leave until a wounded man had been cared for and removed to safety.

She is Miss Jean Lester, and her gallantry is officially recorded in a Southern Command Order. Jean was on duty when enemy aircraft attacked with machine-guns and H.E. bombs. Part of the building was destroyed and a fire started.
