THE ANNOUNCEMENT IN LONDON ON THURSDAY THAT GENERAL WAVELL HAD BEEN GIVEN A FREE HAND TO DEAL WITH GERMAN PENETRATION INTO SYRIA, FOLLOWED BY UNCONFIRMED REPORTS OF BRITISH ACTION AGAINST FRENCH AERODROMES IN THAT COUNTRY, NOW HAVE A SEQUEL IN AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT THAT BRITAIN HAS ALREADY STARTED TO MOVE AGAINST THE NAZIS IN THE FORMER MANDATED TERRITORY.
