A LARGE PART OF PLYMOUTH is to be declared an evacuation area following four raids in eight nights, and 10,000 school- children are to be moved immediately to rural areas in Devon and Cornwall.
Mothers with children, expectant mothers and old age pensioners who wish to make their own arrangements will be assisted to evacuate.
A decision to this effect was reached yesterday at a conference! between the city's Emergency Committee and a representative of the Ministry of Health,
Latest reports indicate that Monday night's raid caused widespread damage, particular. ly in areas already heavily hit. and many were killed. NEVERTHELESS TIES WERE NOT SO HEAVY AS: IN ANY OF LAST WEEK'S

This brave letter, by the mother of Douglas Prater, seven- teen, of Devonshire Road, Stratford, London, E., ar- rived at Ilford Air De- fence Cadet Corps.
But the brokenhearted mother did not tell the full story of her son's heroism.
Four other boys in the Corps had been a few days before re-| commended for the Cadet Gallan-j try Medal for their bravery.
Touched by the letter, one of the officers wrote to the boy's em- ployer, manager of an East End chain store, and received this re- ply:
"Some time ago Cadet Prater left his shelter when he heard bombs falling to give assistance to woman and child who were trapped by debris. He rescued both.

fell.
"His last act was to leave his shelter to tell people to take cover, and by so doing sacrificed his life. as the shelter he was near received a direct hit, where his own was left intact.
"Personally, I have never met a youth so courageous and enthusi- astic and may God bless him, for he died at his post, a hero.
"If you can do anything to bestow an honour on this boy that his dear parents çan value, sir, you will give honour and glory to a galant son of England".
