As is fitting, the matches last night produced a much higher standard than hitherto and although the main match of the evening, which had attract- ed the crowd, was to a certain extent disappointing, there were rallies which produced some of the most brilliant badminton ever seen in the Colony.

There is no gainsaying the fact that the belter man won the sing- les but how much cluser the Fisher and Wynter Blyth result would have been had Wong showed somewhat more balance been at the top of his form is than Pereira and Xavier and won malter for conjecture, although two closely-cuntested games for a it is possible that his game was straight games win. It was this smash of Choy that really governed the match, although the University player, us in no other match he has play- ed in locally thus far, showed uncanny accuracy with his short game. He also easily matched Wong in the matter of disguise of direction, which it was thought, might enable Wong to keep Choy on the wrong foot and thus offset the latter's smash.

Wong was playing a locing game almost all the time but I did admire the way he con tinually changed his tactics in an effort to stop the rot.

Unless that clearing shot was 100 per cent, accurate, however, Choy smashed and killed, and

Good Combination

The fine all-round game of Miss Silva and the splendid courtcraft of both players, enabled the Re-| creio combination to win the wo- men's doubles title. Miss Xavier was at her best when playing the short gume and both girls" covered each other very well.

PATH OF

By BEST BALL

The clubhead which travels low along the ground in the Impact area is thereby allow- ed a good margin for error. By this is meant that it may contact the ball at any point within a fair portion of its swinging are and still turn in a swell job. Such a swing is of course favoured over the stroke which requires impact at an exact spot in the swing- ing arc. The latter method gives little leeway for mis- takes, typical of strokes start- ed back by wrist roll, Harry Vardon was seldom off the fairway (some say never) during the years he was building up his great golfing record, His swing travelled low along the line of fight for the space of a foot on both.
