German bombers at- tacked the North East Coast of England early on Monday morning, accord- Air Ministry ing to an communique.

One enemy bomber was shot down and three members of the crew were captured. Another member of the crew committed suicide.

On the South East of England one enemy bomber was destroy- ed.

South West of England and the North East Scotland were also but attacked during the night damage was small and there were no casualties.

Portsmouth was raided earlier, causing damage to residential areas. Casualties were heavy, but the number of killed was
