This is the most difficult race to forecast, as it is confined to "A" Class, Australian ponies of the new and old brigade.

It will be recalled that in the Moonee Ponds Handicap over ધ mile, Devonian (Mr. Black), al- though
good beaten, put up a show against Connieber. Despite a penalty of 10 lb., I am fully conndent that Devonian will win to-morrow, thus scoring its first victory on behalf of Lady North- cote this year.

Saturday, when it was ridden by Mr. P. P. Botelho, although it was unplaced.
If Mr. Black adopts the same tactics as when he won the Austral Racing Stakes, Colooma may inflict another defeat on Oracle,
Nomine Poenac (Mr. Chao), which was second to Oracle, is another contender, and as it has a 7-lb. allowance from the above two ponies, it should be very closs here.
First Love (Mr. Liang), which came in third in the Austral Der- by, should also be in the picture on the final run for home.
Gloaming (Mr. Pay), which won the Yarra Stakes from the 12 miles post on the last day of the Annual Carnival, is not to be de- spised as the pony has improved considerably and may cause an upset when least expected.
My nomination is Oracle to win, Colooma second with Nomine Poenae third.
Connieber (Mr. Chao) for its win in the Moonee Ponds Handi- cap (one mile) has been penalised by 1 lb., but 1 do not think the extra pound will hamper its

Rose Evelyn is not bad but so far I have not been able to as- certain who will be the jockey. It is good enough to win but I am afraid this pony is a very bad starter and in a short race like this it would be disastrous if it were left at the gate.
However, taking everything into consideration, I think Galveston Bay should win with Emergency Unit second and Advancing Time third.
RACE.NO, 9. CANTON HANDICAP. (SECOND SECTION): SIX FURLONGS This is the final event of the day and is confined to second section of "B" Class, China ponies.
Looking over › the entries. I like the chances of Hughber (Mr. Chang) which has been penalised 10 lb. for its second-placing to Hillsboro Bay in, the Happy Valley Spring. Handicap over the mile.
But there is its stablemate, Lilliber (Mr. Chao) to consider, for it only lost to Hughber by a head although it will be made to carry another 9 lb. to-morrow.
Avon (Mr. Black) is very dan.. gerous with only 141 b. to carry and it will not surprise me at all if it causes an upset, here.
Humdrum Eve has now changed hands. It was formerly noted for its sprinting ability, but as it
has not shown anything like its old form so far, I think we can leave it out,
Mr. Poy has the choice of either Ronson or Rose Emily and which- ever one he decides to take out. should be a menace, to the above ponies as they are very lightly treated.
Galaxy (Mr. Chao) is another pony to watch as it is quite fit at the moment and although the distance may not suit it, it must not to be disregarded,
My choice for the first three are
·Hunhber, -Laflliber and Avon,
