BRITAIN'S LAST WORD to the Yugoslav Government before the latter signed the Axis Pact was disclosed textually by the Under- Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Mr. R. A. But- ler, in the House of Commons yesterday.

When signature of the Pact appeared imminent, the British Minister in Belgrade sent a Note to the Yugoslav Government indicating Britain had been led emphatically to believe that no action could or would be taken capable of harming or making seri- ous difficulties for nations upholding a cause which, she was assured, the Yugoslav people regarded as their own.

The British Government there- fore are shocked to learn that Yugoslavia now suddenly con- templates signature of an agree- ment by which she will not only abandon her neutral attitude but enter into the very system of! Britain's enemies.
