ATTACKS REPULSED

Two Italian attacks were repulsed in the cen- tral sector of the Albanian Front on Monday it was announced on the Athens Radio last night.

One attack was made at dawn in the district round the Apos and Aoos Rivers and was defeated after sharp fighting.

The second attack was launch- ed in the morning after a long ar- tillery preparation and was also smashed despite desperate attacks in waves by the Italians whose losses, particularly in killed, were very heavy while a considerable number of prisoners was taken.-- Reuter.

EMPIRE SHIPPING DRIVE

Effective measures to extend shipbuilding and repair facilities through- out the Empire were men- tioned by the First Lord, Mr. A. V. Alexander, in a written reply to a parlia- mentary question yester- day.

During the last six months the number of warships building in1 the Dominions. India and colonies more than doubled, and orders for a substantial number of merchant vessels placed.

Warship repair facilities also now exist and are being increas- mgy cmp oyed and gons.andy exicnded at almost all main sea- ports in the Dominions, India ind colonies.-Reuter,

BRITAIN'S NAVAL POWER

(SPECIAL TO "CHINA MAIL”

The Stockholm "Mor- genposten" says that in building warships the Bri.. tish have always held to the principle that "what is simple is right."

They have abstained from cer- tain advantages by not making machinery and technical details too complicated.

It is therefore naarly unthink- able that the British salfor makes mistakes during a battle. He is specially well trained, knows precisely how his ma- chine works and can to the last do the job assigned him. Even after severe damage war- ships can keep afloat. It will take much more to overstrain the Bri- tish fleets and complements.- International News Service.
