CHARGE AGAINST POLICE OFFICER
THE CASE AGAINST Sgt. Peter Oliver Guild, of Central Police Station, was continued before Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C., this morning.
Sgt. Guild was charged with dangerous driving in Repulse Bay Road, and with driving under the influence of drink.
Mr. J. M. d'Almada Remedios is defending, and Inspector F. J.j Clarke is for the prosecution,
Colonel Shaw, of the Royal Ar- tillery, in evidence, said that he was driving towards Repulse Bay at about 6.45 p.m. on February 23, when he saw accused's car coming towards him. on the wrong side of the road. He tried to avoid a collision, but was too late.
Hotel Witnesses
Mr. K. Kaluzphny, assistant manager of the Repulse Bay Hotel, told the Court that accused had signed chits for liquor amounting to $31.
Mr. H. P. Santos, clerk of the Hotel, said that he saw defendant in the hotel at about 6 pm, walk- ing in an unsteady manner.
Defendant, in evidence, said that though he had had a few drinks, he was sober at the time of the accident. He had had to swerve to the wrong side to avoid a col- lision, or both drivers of the two vehicles would have been killed,
Mr. Sheidon adjourned the case until this afternoon for decision.
Sentence of three months' hard labour was imposed by Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C., this morning, for snatching a woollen jersey from woman in Ship Street on Fri- day.

SHORTAGE OF FOOD BEGINS IN BULGARIA
