The Admiralty munique announcing the torpedoing of an Italian cruiser, says the cruiser was escorted by two des- troyers.

She was seen to be hit and for two hours afterwards destroyers were seen to be alternately vir- cling round and stopping, evident- ly picking up survivors.

The Italian Condottieri "A" class cruisers are ships of 5,069 tons, mounting eight 6-inch guns.

The class orginally consisted of

four ships One--the Bartolomeo Colleoni--was sunk by H.M.A.S. Sydney and destroyers on July 19, į 1940, British Wireless.

WORK OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN AIR FORCE

An official air communique in Nairobi states: "The South African Air Force has cooperated with the Navy frequently during the cease- less watch on the coast of Italian Somaliland and in bombardments of Modun and a camp near Brava preceding the occupation of Mo- gadiscio.

Much destruction followed the work of the S.A.A.F. at Modun,

Two CR42's attacked a South African aircraft but onc was forced to land by the fire of the rear gunner after being hit re- peatedly.

At Brava, spotting by the S.A.A.F. was very accurate and salvos of shells from ships of the Royal Navy could be seen falling among the tents of the Italians, who ran into the bush terrified by the sudden attack from the sea.- Brish Wireless,

A sum of £750 has been re- mitted by the B. W. O. F., Hong Kong Branch, to the Royal Alfred. Institution for the relief of distress amongst mem- |bers of the British Merchant Navy and Fishing Flects and their dependants.

A similar sum has been remit- ted to the British Red Cross and St. John War Organisation. This makes a total of £30,905.2:2 re- mitted home by the British War: Organisation Fund since its in- ception.
