Ideal Tank
we
Everyone in charge of experi- mental work is seeking after the ideal tank. That is as it should be, but it may lead to a stale where there is no finality.
In the past there were definite limitations. For instance, it was quite reasonable to lay down that the field gun was to be the best weapon that could be drawn by a six-horse team. There was no way of increasing the
power of the horses, and this gave one a finite limitation,
de--
With mechanisation it is very! difficult to lay down any limita- tion of this nature. Hence every- one asks for better and more "x- pensive machines, and no degres of finality is reached. What is re- quired is that experimental work shall continue till something that is "good" is produced.
With our knowledge as it stand; ; at present, it is the tank brigadea that will be of such great value in mobile work. They should be able to control the enemy's ad- Vanted, harass him on the move, and then attack him on the Bank - and the rear.
The intantry If assisted by a suflicient number of fighting ma- clunes, which can take part in
the dog fight, may themselves achieve greater mobility than the infantry of the past, and far great- er power in the attack.
This is an old, simple and well- tried policy, and it is difficult at present to see any necessity to de- part from it in the future.

WOMEN IN TREK TO FRONT LINE
THE WOMEN OF GREECE are throwing them- selves heroically into their country's fight for free- dom. Stories of their courage have been told by a Greek colonel who has arrived in Lisbon after fight- ing in the front lines.
Outstanding is the case of peasant women who in the early days of the war followed their menfolk to the front carrying ammunition.
The Italians were
pouring soldiers until new supplies arriv- } through the mountains. A Greek ed. Then they returned to their} advance guard was ordered to village with the news that the in- leave immediately to attack. Ar- vaders were being pushed back. rangements for renewing ammuni- Lion supplies had not been com- pleted.
The women in a village at the foot of the mountains watched their menfolk go; then they rallied together.
Soon, up the mountain slope, tolling through the snow, went the women in the wake of the Boldiers. On their backs, in the sack-like coils of cloth In which they usually carry their babies, was ammunition.
Though bowed down by the weight of their burden, the women sang as they trudged on. Their song reached the valley The older women left behind knelt in prayer for their defenders and those following them.
