COMPULSORY SERVICE

FIVE BRITISH SUBJECTS APPEARED BEFORE THE COM- PULSORY SERVICE TRIBUNAL THIS MORNING.

The Tribunal comprised His Honour Mr. Justice E. H. Wil- liams (Chairman). Lieutenant- Commander L. L. Tollemache, R.N., Major R. E. Moody, Mr. E. Davidson, Mr. C. Blaker, M.C., and Mr. C. Bramall Burgess (Se- cretary to the Tribunal).

Mr. L. A. Calcraft expressed a wish to be attached to units un- dertaking minelaying and mine- watching, and explained that he had experience in this kind of work, having formerly held 0 commission in the army.

The Chairman pointed out that he would make a note of this, and added that should Mr. Calcraft And difficulty in being accepted, he would be assigned to the Essen- tial Services Group.

Mr. A. J. W. Evans, of the Bri- tish Cigarette Company, said he desired to be assigned to the Key Post Group since he was unable to find time to attend parades. He Was posted 10 the Combatant Group,

INDIA'S AIR FORCE

Plans to speed up the existing Government scheme to train 300 pilots and 2,000 ground staff for the Indian Air Force Re- serve come into effect on March 3.

The plans involve the forma- tion of a new elementary flying school, while the establishment of others is being actively consider- ed.

In future recruits will pass through four stages of training before qualifying for the Fight- ing Services. The civil aviation authorities are cooperating in the scheme.

Training centres for ground staff are also being considerably increased. Reuter,
