ST. JOSEPH'S caused the first big surprise in the Senior Shield Competition this season when at Causeway Bay yesterday they beat Sing Tao by two clear goals after a goalless first half.
Sing Tao fielded their usual team while St. Joseph's introduced Guy and Flanders to their side and played D. Leonard at left half in place of Lau Hing-kwong.
Samts owe then victory to the dangerous, left wing pair and the defence for m the Brt hall they latter gave the Sants attack that vere Piven 24 Kveling time spent they have always needed. gainst the Sout Tao forward and i hough then goal had some na- ow escapes was able to keep it intact.
During that pecho they could hot assist their towards to any xtent as they were hampered by he strong wind and were thus th jible to place their pusses as de Hired. In the second hail they had better hold of Sau Too forwards and plied their forwards with good passes.
With perhaps the heaviest de- fence against them, Sing Tar for- wards could make no impression on Saints's defence and were al-
ways beaten with high balls.
Guy in the pivotal position, played good game and showed glimpses f his old interper, furm. He had the centre well covered and his hard tackling and hard kicking leared his lines often. He was afe with everything overhead.
He had Kwong Ying-kee so well held in the second period that the entre forward was never danger. pus.
Leonard Sound
D. Leonard, in an unusual posi- tion at left half, played himself lo standstill and used his weight whenever required with the result that Yeung Shui-yick was put off his usual game and was not so jangerous, Leonard also paid con- tant attention to Fung King- cheong and with these two players held in check by him and Kwok | unable to do anything against Guy, the sting of Sing Tao's at-
ack was taken cut
At right hall, Castilho did hir bit well. He found the ground slippery at times but was able to keep 1p Pak-wah in check.
Good Backs
Behind this intermediate line were two sound backs in Bowen and Hussain who did not place 3 foot wrong. Hussain covered Boyven admirably while the latter yas safe in his kicking,
The good display of the other defenders gave Summy Tsang, in goal, every confidence and he played an exceptionally good game. He brought off a good save in the opening minutes of the game and in the second half saved several good shots.
MacDonald proved to be a great eader. He took the shortest route to goal and worried Cheung Wing- shuy so much that the latter was hot as safe as usual,
