Ernie Hearther also put up some good Ten Pin scores February 14, when in a series of cight games he made, 226, 184, 204, 202, 200, 212, 211, 203, or 1643 with an average of 205.4 pins per game. This is good, consistent bowling and will take some beating.

The second round in the Singles Handicap Competition has been completed, and the third round is due to be finished by February 24.

Close Finishes

In the final stages of the second round there were some very close and interesting finishes.

In match between H. B. Neale (140) and E. H. Brazel (46) on February 7. Brazel won by the That cow margin of 22 pins

Brazel started off with a good 16v, but Neale only managed a Jawor 117,

C. E Vaughan (Mindanao) played Signalman G. Birkett of Royal Corps of Signals in the second comd, also on the same day. The game resulted in a win for the former by 57 pins

Vaughan's handicap wax plus 10. and Barkett's phas 30, so Bir- kett was conceding 10 pins p Kulte or 30 pins for the three Romes played The scores were, Vaughan 454 and Birkett 397.

Another Near Thing Another interesting close match (also in the second round) was played the same day between Signalman A. Cleggett of Royal Corps of Signals and Cpl. W. Wathen of the same company. This resulted in a win for the former player by eight pins.

Cleggett's handicap was plus 20 and Wathen's plus 30.

Cleggett's useful 220 in his third game

the no doubt gave him match, because Wathen was actually ahead by 17 pins (includ- ing his handicap) after the sec- ond game, Both finished up strongly in the last game but it was anyone's game up to the very last roll!

C. M. Williams met and defeat- ed T. A. Slater on February 11, by 49 pins. Williams handicap was plus 36 and Slater's plus 43. Williams scored 454 and Slater 405.

Slater is better at Duck Pins and I did not expect him to win, There was R very interesting match on February 12-the last match in the second round-Ernie Hearther (+10) and Bdr. Pidgeon of Royal Artillery, who was plus 50. Hearther had to concede the formidible figure of 120 pins for the three games, but after a hard tussle he won by 31 pins, the scores 584 to 553. Hearther scored in his first game, but I cannot help thinking that if Pidgeon had play- ed his usual game he might have beaten his more experienced op- ponent.

Third Round Matches

The first match in the third, pound was played off on February 12 between Corp, H. Watts and CE Vaughan of the U.S.S. Min- danao. Watts' handicap was plus 20 and Vaughan's plus 40. The former won by 54, pins, the score being 511: to 457 Injhis favour.

Watts average worked out at 160 pins per game which is lower that usual, but it was enough to pull him through comfortably, Vaughan bowled below form. He started off with a good 107 pins but made a very poor 106 in his second game, and 120 in the third game his average, including his hundicap. worked
