DIGGING IN

By BEST BALL

12.20

The explosion shot appears the safest method of getting the ball out of the sarid trap. but it is necessary for the player to dig in both with feet and clubhead in order to loft the ball out. It isn't necessary to hit too forceful a blow, for it is only the ball not the bunker one has to move. nevertheless a decisive swing is necessary.

To make such a swing one's footing must be firm and for this reason it is necessary for the player to dig into the sand with his feet. Shifting sands underneath may move the stance, and disturb the groov- ing of the stroke. The pow- er imparted to the swing should be enough to drive it into the sand a short distance back of the ball, and continue driving it through so the sand under the ball is lifted into the air and with it the ball, Pressure must be maintained for if the clubhead ceases its momentum the explosion will be lacking. This means a fel--

head is well clear of the sand.

No Staying Power

As usual the Canuckettes depend mainly on hurler Mary Ng, who despite all the ballyhoo, proved to be only a three-inning chucker in her last game with the Wildcats. It will be recalled that she regis- tered all her strikeouts in the first three stanzas and allowed seven safeties in the next three frames.

The Canadians will in all pro- bability field the same line-up as Jest week, with Rene Yuen, Ulian Khoo, Alce Mar and Mabel Burn around the bases, and Vivienne Louie, Jay Wong and Mavis Chang patrolling the wide open spaces.

Umpires in this game will be "Doc" Molthen, Kassa Nazarin and * T. Chan.
