A page of history was written recently when thirty-odd United States pilots volunteered to form themselves into a regular squadron of the Royal Air Force under the proud title "Eagle Fighter Squa- dron."

Whatever may be the final effect of the creation of this all- American squadron on public opinion elsewhere, the stimulating effect on Britain of this "splendid and spontaneous gesture" is be- yond doubt. As future historians, when they come to tell the full will story of "Eagle Squadron," probably speak of the aptness of its title and its emblem, it may be useful to record just how Eagle Squadron got its badge.
