R.A.F. FIGHTERS crossing the English Channel in several waves, and joined once by bombers, carried out offensive sweeps once again by daylight yesterday over German- occupied territory.

These and other operations by single Bri- tish bombers ended a 24-hour phase of R.łF. action by day and night which was limited by unfavourable weather but showed more vigour than action by the Luftwaffe over Bri- fain.

Captain W: H. Dawson, who brought his vessel into port al- though she was in danger of sink- Ing after she had been lifted right out of the water by bombs eight times, has been awarded the M.B.E.. (Civil Division).

Two officers and a pilot have also. received the M.BE., and thirty-one officers and men have been commended for courage.

One of those commended was the late Captain E. W. Moulton, 'master of the 15,501-ton mer Arandora Star, torpedoed and Hunk while taking: German and Italian internees, to Canada.

Also commended is Captain James Cook, who was master, · of the Athenia, the 13,581-ton Don- aldson Iner which was torpedoed without warning in the Atlantic ten few hours after the declaration
