By "Grandstand"

CHUNG HWA SUFFERED their first League Softball defeat of the season on Sunday when they were downed by the V.R.C. 6-3 in a close game, fea- tured by sparkling fielding on both sides.

By virtue of their win, the Victorians are now on an equal footing with the League-leading Chung Hwas, and it appears to this corner that a play-off for the Limjap trophy is indicated in the near fut-

ure.

Sonny "Jeck" Brown, hurled a steady game for the victors. only walked one, whilst Jay Lu for the losers, started off by far ning three Vies in the first w frames. He soon weakened, how ever, and allowed five blows Top of which were bunched up in the Arth to count for as many UIES.

After waiting out a three-and- two count. VAC lead-off Bimby Ablong stood still 031 groover for the Orst erasurt whilst Ernte Ribentu went same way by taking three healthy cuts at the atmosphere Roy Ma: welt grounded out to grave the scoreboard with a "duck Taking advantage of a pass and theey bobbles, Chung Flas debted the counting station for the first ritt, of the fracas.

In the next two frames, both sides were blanked, but the Vi torians produced the being run in the fourth, when Roy Maxwell worked hurler La for a pass, ar scampered home on left-gardener Richard Chung, wild heuve Catcher Fung.

V.R.C. Take Lead

In the Afth Lionel Roza-Perel z and Manuel Roza both singled. but the latter was forced out by Bimby Ablong's weak grounde. although both Roza-Pereira and Ablong scared on Ernie Ribeiro'- base-cleaning triple to give V.R C. the lead.

Roy Maxwell's dump, which had twirler Liu handruffed, two on the bases. Alec Azedo' timely single driving in both tar- lies.

Helped by two V.R.C. miscues. Bill Chang and Richard Chung both got on base, both scoring on a single and a sacrifice, to slim the lead to 5-3.

One more marker in the last stanza cinched the game for the Victorians, as the Chuymen werc shutout in the last two sessions.

Alec Azedo was the big gun of the day, connecting safely twice In three times to the plate, whilst Ernie Ribeiro poled out the longest hit of the tilt with ધ્ર two-run triple.

Roy Maxwell, V.R.C. guardian of the windy alley, gave the most sparkling fielding display, enaring several line-drives, each one of them a flelding gam. whilst Chung Hwa slabster Jay Liu briliantly shoe-stringed five Infield pops.

of

Playing inspired ball, V.R.C. garnered their second victory the day when they calcimined the Liga Portuguesa 8-0.
