Lee Ting-sang Meets With Nasty Accident

Cheung Wing-choy & Fox Outstanding

By "Referee"

IN ONE OF THE BEST representative games witnessed for a long time, Army qualified to meet Civilians in the Final of the Lai Wah Cup Compe tition when they defeated a strong Chinese team by 4 goals to 1 after extra ti ne at Causeway Bay yes-

terday.

(Sing Too); Tsang Chung-wan (S.) China), Lee Tin-sang (Sing. Tao); Kwok Ying-kee (Sing Tao), Soong Ling-sing (Sing Too), Hsu King- (Eastern),

Fung King-cheong

Fung King-cheong and Cheung when Fox and Weir went near Yung-sum were prominent in the scoring. Hau Ching-to opened the first half and gave Freshwater scoring when he nipped in and some anxious moments but the beat Bankier from close in. pair faded out in the second half Army equalised late in the se-sing (Eastern); Chung Yung-sum when Cheung was slightly injur-cond half through Weir and in the ed.

extra time Fox gave his side h lead from a pass from Duffield.

Lee Well Watched

Lee Wai-tong

was 100 well

watched while Hyui could not get going against the resolute attack ing of the Army defence.

Hau Ching-to was often caugh off-side which spoiled many scor- ing chances.

An unfortunate accident hap- kept Hau Ching-to well suppled Army attacked from the start

the with passes. Lee Ting-sang in second half when he broke his arm and had to give up. This had a great disheartening effect 011 the. Chinese side who al- though leading by the only goal. were unable to cope with the Army forwards.

Lee Wal-tong played at leit back after Lee Ting-sang's acei- dent und did quite well in that "position clearing well and tackling accurately. During the extra time he went back to the attack after Army had obtained the lead.

Army on the whole played good football and deserved their will. From the start they bad the *Chinese continually on the nove and their forwards were inost dangerous when in possession and only the excellent goal-keeping of Cheung Wing-choy kept them from seuring sommer.

Hossack Only Absentee

the

Hossack was the only absentee from the Army side and his place was taken by Pearson Army pos- sessed two good wingers who were speedy and kept Chinese wing halves fully occu pied. Bright in the pivotal posi- tion was a great spoiler while be- hind him Naysmith and Fraser ! were stout defenders. Fraser came into prominence early the game with his tackling while Naysmith was safe in his clear- ances. The two were subjected to continual pressure in the se- cond period and both came out of the ordeal well.

in

Bankier Justified his selection. He brought off several good saves though he was dazed early in the game as the result of a col- lision,

Birrell and Freshwater were hard workers. The former's hard kicking often cleared his lines

while Freshwater, at left

haif,

showed good anticipation and positioned himself well in spile of everything that Fung cheong tried to do to beat him.

Fox Plays Well

King-

of

Fox played a good game in the leader's berth and had the distinction of scoring three side's goal. He was always dar gerous when in possession and he was given good support by Pear- son and Weir.

The Chinese missed.. the vices of Lee, Ting-sang greatly in the closing period of the game. He had been instrumental in breaking up many dangerous moves of the Army.forwards. Tsang was unfortunate in mis- kicking which permitted. Army to take, the lead in the extra time..

Cheung Wing-choy saved: the Chinese from a greater defeat

From the beginning he was call ed upon to give of his best.ang some of his saves, were very good

Without Cheung Army, would have won the game without hav ing to play extra time.
