RAID ON AIR SERVICE? MALTA
The
German dive- bombers based in South- ern Italy are keeping up severe attacks on Malta despite heavy losses.
A total of at least 17 enemy aircraft word destroyed over Malta on Sunday, it was official- ly announced last night.
This makes the "total enemy losses in three days thirty-seven destroyed for certain, five pro- bably destroyed and nine dam- aged,
The firmness of the people of Malta in the face of the repeated heavy attacks is illustrated in a telegram sent by the Governor to the Colonial Secretary, Lord Lloyd.

RETREAT
FROM
KASSALA
Yesterday's communi- que issued in Cairo states that in Libya there was nothing to report.
'PLANES CRASH
Supposed Result Of Panic
(From A Correspondent)
Two bom b-carrying Messerschmitts flying in a formation which tried to bomb a part of the South-East where I am operating to-day, erash- ed from high above the clouds and fell within 300 yards of each other. Both were "yellownosed," be- longing to a squadron es- pecially favoured by Goer- ing.
The two Messerschmitts were separated in some way from the rest during a dog Sght above the clouds which raged over the coun- try lanes which. I. was patrolling. The sound of dog-fighting died away, but the noise of two fighter engines continued overhead above the clouds.
Suddenly the two 'planes camo into view separated by perhaps a quarter of a mile. Both were ob viously in diffiqulies and diving earthwards.
Two parachutes, each with a dangling pilot, came into view as the Messerschmitts crashed. One machine smashed itself into a field. The other crashed badly a couple of yards from a lonely house DC- cupied at the time only by an 89-year-old widow.
Quiet Surrender
It is believed likely that the two pilo's, scared away from the main Nazi force by some Spitfires which poured among their ranks, came in collision and destroyed each other.
The two pilots, one an officer. and the other a sergeant-pilot, dropped: more than two; mijes away from their wrecked - ma » · chines. Both men, who's were tall and powerfully bulit, sur. rendered without showing, fight to, mąbile guards:
